The 8th Taiwan International Documentary Festival 2012 Submission Guidelines
o Entry Deadline
Submissions must be postmarked by June 15, 2012. No entry fee is required.
o General Requirement
Documentaries of any style and form completed after July 1, 2010 are eligible for competition at 2012 TIDF.
Works submitted to competition must be Taiwan premieres, except for Taiwan productions.
International works submitted to competition must be Taiwan premieres.
o Competitions and Awards
Certificates will be granted to each nominated documentary. One director or producer of each nominated film will be invited to the festival. TIDF will provide accommodation and a round-trip economic-class ticket to Taiwan. One guest per film. Screening fees for nominated works are waived automatically.
TIDF will grant each award-winning documentary a certificate, a trophy and prize money. A 15% tax will be deducted for Taiwanese nationals; a 20% tax for foreign nationals. Winning documentaries must authorize TIDF the rights of five free non-commercial screenings within two years after the end of the festival.
International Feature-Length Documentary
Open to documentaries over 60 minutes.
Grand Prize : 1 film; 10,000 USD,a certificate and a trophy.
Merit Prize: 2 film; 6,000 USD ,a certificate and a trophy each.
International Mid-Length＆Short Documentary
Open to documentaries up to 60 minutes.
Grand Prize : 1 film; 5,000 USD,a certificate and a trophy.
Merit Prize: 2 film; 2,500 USD ,a certificate and a trophy each.
◎ If a film is exactly 60 minutes long, entrants may choose to enter either the Feature-Length or the Mid-Length & Short competition.
Asian Vision Award
All Asian films of any length or those that aimed at Asian themes selected in Competitions or Non-Competition Programs will be considered.
Grand Prize : 1 film; 5,000 USD,a certificate and a trophy.
Merit Prize: 1 film; 2,500 USD,a certificate and a trophy.
Taiwan Award
All Taiwanese films of any length or those that aimed at Taiwanese themes selected in Competitions or Non-Competition Programs will be considered.
Grand Prize : 1 place; 200,000 NTD,a certificate and a trophy.
Special Jury's Prize : 1 place; 100,000 NTD,a certificate and a trophy.
o Selection Procedure
Preliminary Selection: A committee of Taiwanese professionals will select films for nomination.
※ Nominations will be announced in mid-August 2012 on TIDF website. Entrants will also be notified.
※ The films submitted to Competitions may be selected into Non-Competition programs.
Final Selection: Juries consisted of international and Taiwanese professionals will select the winning documentaries during the festival.
o Submission
One entry form is required for each film.
On-line Submission only. Please use our on-line submission form (http://www.tidf.org.tw) ; print the final confirmation, sign at the authorization, and mail them to TIDF along with two DVD-NTSC preview screeners.
TIDF will not cover any shipping fare for submissions. Entry materials will not be returned unless they are picked up from the office at a later time.
TIDF considers the submitted films as a part of the NTMOFA’s collection. DVDs submitted will be stored at NTMOFA’s archive for research and educational screening.
All entrants must authorize TIDF to make a digital copy in order to facilitate screenings for jury members.
