A group of Taiwanese dancers, the Yun-Shui Dance Group, led by its dance teacher, Mrs. Lee Pei-Huang, called on H.E. Larry Yu-yuan Wang, Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan)to the Holy See, right after their tour of St. Peter’s Basilica the morning on July 16.
The dance troupe came to Italy to perform in Macerata on July 11-12, home town of Fr. Matteo Ricci, at the Macerata Oriente Festival. While in Rome, a performance was scheduled on the evening of July 16 at the Chinese Catholic Church of San Bernardino da Siena.
Ambassador Larry Wang was delighted to meet a Taiwanese group which is able to brilliantly combine the culture, the art and music of the ancient Chinese tradition while turning it into a dance as to create a bridge of friendship between the East and the West. He strongly encouraged the dancers to be excellent ROC “Cultural Ambassadors” in the world, in order to promote folk and traditional dances from Taiwan which are wonderful to watch as well as good for one’s health to practice.
The Yun-Shui Dance Group was established in 2005 by dance teacher Lee Pei-Huang. The group is composed of 38 senior female dancers, mostly retired teachers, jewels designers, musicians, business women, and also housewives, thus showing that this type of dance has no age limits and it is good for the health.
