Taipei, Sept. 24 (CNA) One of China's top negotiators with Taiwan arrived in Taipei Wednesday on a seven-day visit to learn more about the island's trade and economic development.
As soon as he disembarked from an Air China flight at Taoyuan International Airport, Zheng Lizhong vice president of Beijing's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits, was whiskered away by staff of Taiwan's Straits Exchange Foundation and did not speak to reporters.
A spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office under China's State Council said later in the day in Beijing that Zheng was visiting Taiwan to become more familiar with its trade and economic development.
Throughout his visit, Zheng will be accompanied by staff of Taiwan's Straits Exchange Foundation, the spokesman Ma Xiaoguang said.
He said Zheng is scheduled to return to China on Sept. 30.
