Invited by the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Hon. Omar Figueroa, Minister of State for Fisheries, Forestry, the Environment and Sustainable Development, and Hon. Angel Compose, Minister of State for Health are scheduled to visit the Republic of China (Taiwan) August 15th to 19th, 2016.
During their visit, two Ministers of State will call on their counterparts in the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan), including Council of Agriculture, Environmental Protection Administration, International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF), and Ministry of Foreign Affairs to exchange views on matters of mutual concern and discuss possible projects for future bilateral cooperation, especially in the areas of environmental protection, sustainable development and public health. They will also visit Beitou Refuse Incineration Plant, Far Eastern Memorial Hospital, Tatan Power plant, Taiwan Power Company, Speed Tech Energy Co. Ltd, National Cultural and Creative Gift Center, Taipei Zoo to share Taiwan’s experiences in those specific fields. The two Ministers of State will visit Embassy of Belize in Taiwan and meet with Belizean students studying in Taiwan.
Belize and the Republic of China (Taiwan) have worked closely to promote development in many areas. In December 2014, after many years of cooperation, projects on horticulture, rice seeds production, and food processing were handed over smoothly to the full management of Belize Government. Meanwhile, three new programs: Aquaculture Farming, Citrus HLB Prevention/ Containment, and High Quality Genetic Sheep had been initiated.
In addition to the field of agriculture, the cooperation in Information Communication Technology has already been implemented for many years and will continue to develop with a view to achieving e-government for Belize. Last year, the first project on public health, the Prevention and Cure of Kidney Diseases, was launched. This project will serve as a pilot for bilateral cooperation on public health. Cooperation for addressing more public health issues will be expanded in the years to come.
