WORKSHOPS TO STRENGTHEN THE CAPACITY IN removal of the diseased treeS and the coordinated sprays to control pest and disease in CITRUS

The Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) is pleased to announce that the Project of Strengthening the Control of HUANGLONGBING(HLB) and Implementation of Integrated Pest Management(IPM) in Citrus in Belize, supported by the Government of the Republic of China(Taiwan) and executed by ICDF-Taiwan and OIRSA, held several workshops in the Cayo and Stann Creek district from September 6 to September 8, 2016, to increase the public awareness of HLB .
During these workshops which were also participated by CGA, the results of the demonstration plots, OIRSA/ICDF-Taiwan Project from 2014 to 2016, were presented to citrus growers and technical personnel from different citrus farms. This is to show farmers the implementation of the Taiwanese experience on the demo plots with the objective to have a low HLB incidence with the devastating HLB disease and to develop a planting or replanting model for citrus suitable for Belize.
Citrus farmers acknowledged the importance in removal of the diseased trees and the coordinated sprays to control pest and disease. There was a total of 41 farmers and 5 technical personnels attended these workshops held in 4 different zones. It was expected forward that the shared information will benefit the citrus farmers and technical personels to make the necessary adjustment to their managing practices for a better citrus production and revenue.
