Canadian Jurist Louise Arbour Awarded 2016 Tang Prize in Rule of Law

The laureate of the 2016 Tang Prize in Rule of Law was announced in Taipei on June 21. Louise Arbour is the recipient of the Prize for her enduring contributings to international criminal justice and the protection of human rights.
The Honourable Louise Arbour is currently counsel and juist in residence at the Canadian law firm, Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG), in Montreal. Before joining BLG, she served as the Associate Dean of Osgoode Hall Law School of York University, Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada (1999-2004), and United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (2004-2008).
Representative Rong-chuan Wu of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Canada called to congratulate Ms. Arbour immediately and will pay a visit sooner.
The Tang Prize has awarded biennially since 2014. It includes four categories: Sustainable Development, Biopharmaceutical Science, Sinology and Rule of Law. The prize bestows a cash prize of NTD 40 million (around USD 1.3 million) each category. In addition to the cash prize, a research grant of NTD 10 million (around USD 310,000) will also be awarded to recipient(s). Should multiple candidates (up to three) be named in the same category, the cash and grant are shared. The Award Ceremony will be held in Taipei on September 25 this year.
