The industrial structure of Taiwan began to transform in the mid-1980s; resulting from economic liberalization and globalization. To support the transformation of the various local industries, the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), has been focusing on the added-value and international competitive enhancement of Taiwanese consumer products by improving their quality, design, and image.
The Taiwan Excellence Award was established by the MOEA in 1992 as a symbol for recognizing the international standard of quality of products made in Taiwan. The candidates for the award are selected according to the following five criteria: "R&D", "Design", "Quality", "Marketing", and “Manufactured in Taiwan”. These selected products will be marked as "Taiwan Excellence", and with this accreditation, the companies receive promotional support from the MOEA.
