In order to promote traditional Chinese Mandarin learning, the Education Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Canada held the 2016 TOCFL (Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language) and the CCCC (Children’s Chinese Competency Certification) tests on Saturday, April 23rd, 2016, at Unionville High School in Toronto. This year there were 32 examinees registered.
The new version of the TOCFL has three proficiency bands: Band A, Band B, and Band C. The TOCFL certificate is an important credential to be eligible for the government-sponsored Taiwan Scholarship and Huayu Enrichment Scholarship. It also serves as a requirement for the admission qualification to academic programs at colleges or universities in Taiwan for overseas Chinese applicants who did not complete their secondary education in Taiwan.
The CCCC is designed for non-native Chinese-speakers between the ages of 7 and 12. There are three levels for the test: Sprouting, Seedling, and Blossoming. The test material is taken from a wide range of real-life situations and contains a variety of material, which helps young learners to track their learning progress and to inspire their enthusiasm and interest.
