The 2nd Sound of Dragon Music Festival, which is scheduled to run from April 21 to 24, 2016, will feature some of the most creative music crafted through the collaboration of Vancouver’s Asian music community, local music scene innovators, and special guest artists from Taiwan.
The Festival celebrates diverse musical styles, from traditional, classical, contemporary, jazz, world, fusion, to experimental music. Sound of the Dragon includes food, movies, free events and an art exhibition at the Roundhouse Community Centre (181 Roundhouse Mews, Vancouver, BC V6Z 2W3).

Ka Dao Yin featured concert
Winner of Taiwan’s Golden Indie Music Award for Best Jazz Album and Best Jazz Track and the Taiwan Golden Melody Award for Traditional Arts (equivalent to the Grammy) for Best Crossover Album, Ka Dao Yin features an unusual instrumentation of sheng/mouth organ, zheng/zither, piano and saxophone.

“Improvising East, Enchanting West”
Shih Yang Lee (Taiwan) and Paul Plimley (Vancouver), two of the most creative pianists from the east and the west will meet for the first time. Joining them are Taiwanese Canadian erhu soloist Lan Tung and Taiwanese painter Li Tung.

Screening of Taiwanese movie “Ripples of Desire” (2012)
Set on a floating island populated by pirates and lepers off the shores of the 17th century Taiwan, “Ripples of Desire” is a tale of talented but doomed sisters in the “House of Flowers”. More graceful than any geisha, the sisters performed Nanguang music and dance in this poetic film by director Chou Zero, featuring music composed by Chen Mingchang.
In addition to the concerts, the Taiwanese Canadian Cultural Society will serve delicious Taiwanese food throughout the festival from April 22 to 24 in Roundhouse Community Centre.
Taiwanese artist Li Tung will create live paintings on site throughout the festival. His works may be abstract visualization of the music, live sketches of the musicians, or colours and shapes inspired by the music.
