Mr. WU, Rong-chuan, Representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Canada presented a cheque in the amount of $60,000 CAD to Mr. Conrad Sauvé, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Red Cross, as part of the May 9th Red Cross Day on Parliament Hill. The Honourable Member of Parliament Judy Sgro (the Chair of Canada-Taiwan Parliamentary Friendship Group) and the Honourable Kent Hehr, Alberta resident and Minister of Veteran Affairs for Canada, were on hand to witness the donation.
On behalf of the government and the people of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Mr. WU conveyed his most sincere humanitarian concerns and blessings to those affected by the devastating wildfire in and around Fort McMurray, paid tribute to the joint efforts of both the Canadian government and people to the restoration, and expressed appreciation for the Hon. Judy Sgro's and Hon. Kent Hehr’s availability to witness the donation.
On behalf of the Canadian Red Cross, and all Canadians, Mr. Sauvé expressed gratitude to the people of Taiwan for the kindness and generosity demonstrated towards the people of Canada.
