The Taiwan Fellowship is established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to support foreign experts and scholars interested in research related to Taiwan, cross-strait relations, mainland China, the Asia-Pacific region, and Chinese studies for advanced research at universities or academic institutions in Taiwan. The application process will begin on May 1, 2017, and recipients may start their research in Taiwan in January 2018.
Eligibility:
Recipients shall be foreign professors, associate professors, assistant professors, post-doctoral researchers, doctoral candidates, or doctoral program students at related departments of overseas universities, or are research fellows at an equivalent level in academic institutions abroad.
Awards:
- Round trip air ticket.
- Monthly stipends: NT$50,000 – 60,000 (CAD$1,974 – 2,368) for the duration of research, from 3 months up to 1 year.
- Accident insurance
Application:
Canadian applicants from Ontario (excluding Ottawa and Great Ottawa Region), Manitoba, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island are requested to first submit online applications on the Taiwan Fellowship’s website ( taiwanfellowship.ncl.edu.tw ) and then send the following documents by post to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Toronto (151 Yonge St., Suite 501, Toronto, ON, M5C 2W7) before June 30, 2017 for preliminary review:
- Printed online application form
- Resume (including a publication list)
- Research proposal (3 pages in principle using a standard research format)
- Two letters of recommendation, or one letter of recommendation and one letter of consent from the chief administrator of their institute
