Peace bell tolled in Switzerland to commemorate the historical artillery bombardment on Kinmen island

Peace Bell tolling ceremonies were held in Geneva Conference Center of Buddhism (佛光山), Geneva and Bethlehem Mission Immensee on the morning and afternoon of August 23, 2011 to commemorate the artillery bombardment happened 53 years ago on Kinmen – a small island off coastal mainland China. The ceremonies were held together with 10 other countries on the same date this year, the year of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of China.
The ceremony held in Geneva Conference Center of Buddhism (佛光山) earlier on the day was hosted by Rev. Miao Hsian (妙祥法師) and attended by around 30 people from Geneva area. The other ceremony held in Bethlehem Mission Immensee in the afternoon was hosted by Father Wyl and attended by more than 80 people from Bethlehem Mission and leaders from Chinese communities in Luzern area. A delegation led by Mr. Justin Huang, Mayor of Taitung County and three legisters from the ROC Legislative Yuan were also invited to attend the ceremony and ring the bell together with Father Wyl and Amb. Fadah Hsieh of this office.
The legislators, Mayor Huang and Amb. Hsieh all blessed their homeland and this world everlasting peace and passed an unequivocal message to the attendants that the ROC is determined to play the role as a peace maker in the world.
