Under the invitation from the Shawnee Mission Medical Center (SMMC) and Mr. Benny Lee, Overseas Chinese Affairs Advisor of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Committee, Director General Jack J. C. Yang of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Kansas City attended the Shawnee Mission Birth Center Grand Opening Celebration and honoring the contribution of Benny & Edith Lee ceremony on Sunday, February 24, 2013.
To provide better services for pregnant women and new born babies, Shawnee Mission Medical Center spent 30 million dollars building this new Birth Center. Benny & Edith Lee were not only the first donors to this project, but also the largest private donor who contributed one million dollars. They were the first persons to be announced during the ceremony, and the atrium of this Birth Center was named as “Benny and Edith Lee Atrium”.
