Implementing labor inspections in the fishing industry across borders: Taiwan Fisheries Agency dispatches officials to foreign ports for inspections
Share
To systematically enhance the labor rights of foreign crew members working on Taiwanese distant-water fishing vessels, the Taiwan Fisheries Agency (TFA) has deployed four inspectors to conduct labor inspections at Taiwan fishing vessels in Suva port.
These inspections thoroughly examine the labor and living conditions of foreign crew members working on Taiwanese distant-water fishing vessels. They encompass aspects such as wage amounts with full and direct payment, compliance with regulations regarding living space, facilities, drinking water, food supplies on board, and more. Additionally, the inspectors review the crew's attendance records and remind operators to adhere to regulations for the protection of crew members' rights. TFA will continue to carry out labor inspections both domestically and internationally to safeguard the human rights of foreign crew members.
Four fishery labor inspectors paid a visit to our office, where they had the opportunity to capture a memorable moment alongside Ambassador Chow and our fellow colleague from the Fishery Department.
