In a stirring address, Representative Joseph Chow reflected on the remarkable journey of Taiwan’s political and economic development and the indomitable spirit of Taiwanese people. He emphasized, in the face of sustained coercion and pressure from the People's Republic of China, the Republic of China (Taiwan) has exemplified extraordinary resilience and determination, demonstrating to the world that Taiwan's role on the global stage is indispensable. Taiwan's unwavering values and confidence stem from the collective commitment of its people to safeguard national sovereignty and preserve their cherished democratic and free way of life. While Taiwan remains steadfast, it firmly stands against any attempts to escalate conflicts or provoke disputes. Instead, it remains resolute in its commitment to defend its national sovereignty and security. In an increasingly complex international landscape, Taiwan serves as a steadfast guardian of peace, stability, and democracy. It stands as a democratic frontline against authoritarian expansion and aggression, symbolizing the enduring spirit of freedom. Taiwan is not only a beacon of hope for democratic societies worldwide but also a vital partner in reinforcing the rules-based international order.
Representative Chow also highlighted Taiwan's robust economic performance, ranking among the top economically competitive nations and champions of economic freedom. It is the primary producer of a significant majority of the world's chips, including the most advanced ones. Taiwan's commitment extends beyond economic prosperity, as demonstrated by its dedication to sustainable development. The enactment of the 2050 net-zero emissions target into law and the promotion of renewable energy installation reaffirm Taiwan's dedication to global cooperation. Taiwan has also been a stalwart supporter of international humanitarian efforts, extending aid to Ukraine during the Russia-Ukrainian War and providing assistance to earthquake-affected regions like Turkey and Morocco.
Notably, Representative Chow emphasized Taiwan's longstanding presence in Fiji, dating back to the establishment of a trade mission in 1971. Collaborations have flourished over the years, particularly in agriculture, aquaculture, education, medical and public health, solar power generation, capacity building, and training programs, enhancing the partnership's depth and breadth.
