Mayor Hu in Singapore to promote Taichung Lychee
A media conference to promote top quality lychee and other agricultural products from Taichung was held on the morning of 2 July 2012 in Singapore. Organized by the Agricultural Bureau of Taichung City Government, the conference was graced by Mr Jason Hu, Mayor of Taichung City. In attendance at the conference too was Mr Hsieh Fa-Dah, Representative of Taipei Office in Singapore, who had been invited to address the media.
Both Mr Hu and Mr Hsieh took turns to share with reporters on the superior quality of fruits produced in Taiwan, its competitive pricing and their strong market potentials in Singapore. Mr Hsieh particularly pointed out that the total value of agricultural products exported to Singapore from Taiwan was as high as US$99.63 million in Year 2011, representing an increase of 22.74% from the previous year. Amongst them, the export of fresh lychees represented a significant increase of 462%.
On the same afternoon itself, NTUC Finest, Singapore largest supermarket, organized a promotion event including lychee tasting and peeling competition. With their respective spouses, both Mr Hu and Mr Hsieh were at the supermarket to endorse the event and they were warmly received by the media and consumers.
