A delegation from Taiwan’s Chunghwa Postal Workers’ Union, led by President Cheng Kuang-Ming, visited Ireland on October 10 and participated in the UNI Post & Logistics World Conference held in Dublin. The 8-member delegation met with Ambassador Simon Tu of the Taipei Representative Office in Ireland to share their experiences of the trip and exchange views on bilateral relations and cooperation between the Taiwan and Ireland.
The UNI Post & Logistics World Conference was hosted by Ireland this year, with over 200 participants from over 40 countries and regions including Taiwan, the United States, Germany, France, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Italy, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore. The two-day meeting was held from October 13 to 14 to discuss issues in the global postal and logistics industry, including innovation, new forms of services, e-commerce, privatization, liberalization, and future development strategies, aiming to contribute to international postal and logistical cooperation.
Ambassador Tu gave his welcome to the postal union on its first visit to Ireland to represent Taiwan in this important global conference, and expressed his hope that this would assist the government to promote postal diplomacy. He noted that Chunghwa Post Company has a long history and that Chunghwa Postal Workers’ Union currently has more than 20,000 members, making it one of the biggest labour unions with an extremely important status. Chunghwa Post Company has earned national recognition in Taiwan for the quality of its service and deserves to expand its international reputation. It is hoped that Taiwan’s postal companies and workers’ unions will further promote cooperation with their Irish counterparts in the future, strengthen postal communications between Taiwan and Ireland, and contribute to the development of Taiwan-Ireland relations.
