On November 30, 2016, Representative Simon Tu attended the opening ceremony of the Contemporary Painting Exhibition organized by Irish artists David Corbally and Mark Rourke, held at the Georgian Society in Dublin. In addition to his artwork, Mr. Corbally is also a Chinese medicine practitioner and is enthusiastic in charity work. The Peter McVerry Trust was also in attendance at the event to raise funds for homeless people during the winter season. The event was attended by more than 100 people, including artists, charitable organizations and Chinese medicine practitioners. The event proved to be extremely successful.
Both Mr. Corbally and Mr. Rourke are amateur painters who are greatly interested in modern oil painting. Their works are between realistic and abstract art, and their use of contrasting oil painting techniques produces a stunning effect. Mr. Corbally travelled to Taipei in August this year to participate in the "2016 International Acupuncture and Traditional Medicine Training Program", and met with Taiwanese medical experts and scholars to discuss and exchange observations. He was very positive about the progress of Chinese medicine in Taiwan and the National Health plan. Mr. Corbally was also very impressed by the delicious food, beautiful sceneries and the friendliness and warmth of the Taiwanese people. In September, the Taiwan Association in Ireland celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival with lectures and demonstrations on Chinese acupuncture and cupping by Mr. Corbally. The attendees, including politicians, scholars, artists and overseas Taiwanese were provided with an opportunity to learn more about Chinese medicine.
Representative Tu also took this opportunity to introduce Taiwan’s profound arts and culture as well as world famous charity groups such as the Tzu Chi Foundation and Buddha’s Light Foundation to the participants, and encouraged bilateral exchange and cooperation in the future so as to enhance the mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples.
