Bilateral relations between Taiwan and Ireland have developed much in recent years and the number of Taiwanese people who are coming to Ireland for investment, work, migration, schooling, and for leisure is increasing year after year. In light of this, the Taipei Representative Office in Ireland actively encourages the Taiwanese community to help promote overseas education and strengthen essential services for expatriates. Highly recommended by this Office, Ms Evan Liu, Principal of the Dublin Mandarin School, has been appointed the coordinator to the OCAC in Ireland for a two year term, starting in January 2017 to assist in promoting overseas Taiwanese affairs.
Last January saw the first coordinator appointment to the Overseas Community Affairs Council in Ireland for 30 years, as Taiwan-Ireland Association Chairman Frank Lu was appointed to the post. It was thanks to his tireless work in promoting Taiwanese Affairs. Chairman Lu and Principal Liu are the backbone of the Taiwanese Community and are sure to encourage many new generations of young people.
Ms Liu brings a wealth of experience in education and organising many Taiwanese Community initiatives to her new role, including her work on the annual Lunar New Year Luncheon, the Dragon Boat Festival, the Mid - Autumn Festival and the National Day Flag-raising ceremony, all of which were praised by the local community. The OCAC is active in the Arts, Media, Academia and Education as well as the Trade and Industry fields and actively assists overseas Taiwanese Teachers (including cookery teachers) in their work. In May this year, they will host their first in-house "Taiwanese Cultural Festival" which promises to be an exciting event. The cohesion and strength of the Taiwanese community in Ireland, combined with their cooperation with the OCAC is exemplified by Mr Lu and Ms Liu and their appointment to the posts is thoroughly deserved.
