On the 30th March 2017, Representative Tu was invited to attend "Multiculturalism Week" at Greystones Primary and Secondary School (south of Dublin). Representative Tu was warmly welcomed by the teachers, parents and students present and introduced them to facts and information about Taiwan. The day’s activities proved to be very lively and interesting, and were part of a week-long celebration of different cultures, including that of Taiwan. Representative Tu briefed the teachers, parents and students present about Taiwan's rich geography, history, political development, economy, culture and people, and spoke about Taiwan’s free, democratic and open society. In particular, Representative Tu mentioned that in May 2016, Taiwan's president; Dr. Tsai Ing-wen, took office becoming the first female president in history. Representative Tu also spoke about Taiwan's progressive education system, high-tech industry and other aspects of development; information that was positively received by the teachers, parents and students present. Representative Tu’s speech was followed by a Q&A session to which the students responded enthusiastically, with many expressing an interest in visiting Taiwan someday.
The Taiwan theme of the school’s “Multiculturalism Week” was held in cooperation with Ms. Evan Liu, the Principal of the Dublin School of Mandarin Chinese. The goal was to provide the school’s teachers, parents and students with the opportunity to learn more about other cultures, including about Taiwan’s unique political, economic, cultural, technological and educational customs. In addition, the Taipei Representative Office and Dublin School of Mandarin Chinese arranged to perform the “Electric-Techno Gods” and the energetic performance proved very popular with teachers and students alike. Following this, students and parents had their photo taken with the Taiwanese god- "Third Prince". The event proved to be most successful and helped to promote Taiwan to all present, especially the enthusiastic younger generation of students.
