On 20th May 2017, Representative Simon S.K. Tu was invited to attend the Annual “Garda Memorial Day", in memory of the eighty-eight members of An Garda Síochána (the Irish police force) who gave their lives in the line of duty. The ceremony was led by religious leaders including the Church of Ireland Archdeacon; the Venerable David Pierpoint and was held in Dublin Castle’s Memorial Garden. More than 600 people were in attendance including politicians, foreign dignitaries, family members of those who lost their lives, senior members of An Garda Síochána, and religious and minority group leaders. Those in attendance were invited to pay their respects at the Garda Síochána Memorial Garden by laying eighty-eight white roses at a commemorative monument remembering those heroes and heroines of the force.
The Taipei Representative Office would like to express continuing support to An Garda Síochána in their duty protecting the people of Ireland, fighting against terrorism, combating crime and maintaining public safety, etc. This office also strives to actively cooperate with An Garda Síochána to jointly assist the Taiwanese community in Ireland and to provide services in the safe entry and exit of all Taiwanese tourists.
