From 1st-4th August 2017, the “International Linguistics Olympiad” was held in Dublin City University (DCU). The event comprised individual and group competitions and the Taiwanese team of twelve members was led by Professor Shu-Kai Hsieh Ph.D. of “National Taiwan University” and Professor Victoria Rau Ph.D. of “National Chung Cheng University”. Representative Simon S.K. Tu visited the team on 31st July to welcome them to Ireland and encouraged them to do their best for Taiwan in the competition.
The results of the competition were announced on 4th August with the Taiwanese team winning the Group Gold Medal and one Gold medal, two Silver medals, and two Honourable Mentions with individual. Representative Tu congratulated the team on their success and encouraged them to continue developing their skills which will help them throughout future careers and working lives. He also praised the delegation’s staff members for their hard work and support. The Taiwanese team was composed of talented students from middle and high schools and all were ranked highly by the judges in the two-round competition. Overall, the event proved to be a great success for the Team and an excellent opportunity to develop the relationship between the two countries.
