On 2nd June 2016 His Excellency Representative Tu addressed Fingal Chamber of Commerce on the gracious invitation of Chamber President Guy Thompson. He delivered a speech entitled “Trade & Investment Opportunities between Taiwan and Ireland” to a gathering of around 50 business leaders and prominent figures from all walks of life in the County, including Fingal Mayor and the County Council Chief Executive. In a detailed and informative presentation Representative Tu briefed participants on the current trade and investment climate in Taiwan. He also made mention of the successful Presidential election earlier this year and stressed Taiwan’s longstanding commitment to freedom and democracy.
Representative Tu pointed out that Taiwan is the 25th largest economy in the world with market of 23 million people, and encouraged Irish businesspeople to consider the opportunities available to them. He discussed the advantages that Taiwan offers as a springboard into the wider East Asian market, granting traders and investors the security of an open society with strong rule of law and intellectual property protection, while also allowing them the benefits of Taiwan’s immense distribution networks and supply chains across the Taiwan Strait. He also highlighted areas of particular potential for greater business links between Ireland and Taiwan, making special mention of Ireland’s agri-food, dairy, whiskey, and pharmaceutical sectors.
The speech was followed by an exchange of views with Chamber members and other guests. Representative Tu was heartened by the warm reception and will continue to promote exchanges with business associations to deepen the economic relationship between Ireland and Taiwan.
