On 22nd July 2016 His Excellency Representative Simon Tu visited Holy Child School in Dún Laoghaire for the closing ceremony of the 2016 English Summer School, on the gracious invitation of School Principal Andrew Basquille. The English-language Summer School has been running successfully for several years as part of an exchange programme with De Guang Catholic Middle School in Tainan, Taiwan.
This year over a dozen middle school students from Tainan participated in the programme, immersing themselves in Irish culture and developing their fluency in the English language. Representative Tu thanked Principal Basquille, Holy Child staff, and teachers from De Guang for all their dedication in running the summer school. He congratulated the young Taiwanese students for their hard work and encouraged them to continue in their study of the English language.
Representative Tu presented certificates to the students, who showed their appreciation by singing a popular Taiwanese folk-song, ‘The Moon Represents my Heart’, for the enjoyment of teachers and guests.
