Representative R. C. Wu of Taipei Mission in the Republic of Riga, on behalf of the Taipei City Government, received a certificate of commendation from Mayor Nils Ushakovs of Riga on September 22 at a reception in appreciation of the individuals and organizations contributed to the celebrations of the 815th founding anniversary of the city of Riga. In recognition of Taipei City Government for sending Taipei Percussion to join the Riga City Festival 2016, Mayor Ushakovs expressed his thanks and satisfaction of Taipei city for cherishing the sister-city exchanges between the cities of Riga and Taipei.
The Riga City Festival 2016 took place from August 12 to 14, during which live music, theatre, art, fireworks, family activities and much more were conducted. "Taipei Percussion" and dozens of local and foreign art troupes from Czech, Slovenia presented their performances to the Latvian audiences, making the Riga City Festival more diversified and internationalized. In this regard, the Riga City Government bestowed the certificates of commendation to those actively involved in the celebrations.
This is the fourth consecutive year that Taipei City Government has dispatched cultural troupes to participate in the Riga City Festival. Given that this year marks the 15th anniversary of establishing sisterhood relations between Taipei and Riga, Taipei City Government specially designated "Taipei Percussion" composed of seven musicians to perform in Riga’s "Spikeru" Concert Hall to celebrate Riga’s birthday by playing popular and well-known Taiwanese folk songs such as "Diudiu Tong", "Dark Sky", "Village Song", aboriginal song "Alubaling" and so on. Its performances, receiving wide echo from the audiences, featured successful completion of city diplomacy through cultural exchanges.
