Representative Wu attended the opening ceremony of special exhibition "Imprint of Civilization" for ancient Chinese books at University of Tartu

The University of Tartu in collaboration with the Taipei Mission in the Republic of Latvia held a special exhibition "Imprint of Civilization" for displaying ancient Chinese book replicas provided by the National Central Library of Taiwan, showcasing the rich Chinese history preserved in Taiwan today.
Representative and Head of the Taipei Mission Mr. Rong-chuan Wu attended the opening ceremony on 27th of October and delivered a speech introducing the history of Chinese Civil War and explaining the fact that the most precious pieces of artwork in China were transported to Taiwan during that time by the Nationalist Government, preventing them from being destroyed in the Cultural Revolution. To this day, people in Taiwan can still read ancient Chinese books due to the use of traditional Chinese characters, whereas people in China have lost this link to Chinese history due to the use of simplified characters.
Aside from the display of book replicas, Taiwanese tea was served at the ceremony, giving the distinguished guests a taste of high quality tea grown in Taiwan. Representative Wu also instructed on the proper way to savor the tea, generating high interest in Taiwanese culture among the guests. The exhibition will last until the end of November and the book replicas will be shipped to Lithuania for another exhibition in Vilnius University.
