Representative Wu of the Taipei Mission in the Republic of Latvia visited Lithuania in early December, 2016. Aside from delivering a speech at the Vilnius International Rotary Club, He visited the Lithuanian Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Crafts and the Vilnius Chamber of Commerce and Industry to promote trade relations between Taiwan and Lithuania.
In his speech titled “Taiwan’s Diversified Society” in the Vilnius International Rotary Club, Representative Wu noted that though Taiwan suffers unfair international status, it has undergone a smooth and successful political democratization process, and elected the first female president from a common family in Asia in January this year. He also pointed out that more than 2,000 Taiwanese NGOs in all fields prominently participating in international activities, creating a positive national image for Taiwan. For example, there are nearly 30,000 Rotarians in Taiwan and Mr. Gary C.K. Huang from district 3520 in Taiwan was elected President of the Rotary International in 2014. He also introduced the economic development of Taiwan and encouraged members of the Vilnius International Rotary Club to participate in international trade shows organized by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) to explore business opportunities between the two countries.
In the meetings with officials of the Chambers, Representative Wu and Mr. Chien-Hui Lee, Director of TAITRA Center in Warsaw made comments on the mutually complimentary trade status between the two countries. Director Lee encouraged the Lithuanian side to send delegations to participate in trades shows related to computer, food and electronics in Taiwan to promote exporting Lithuanian laser products, poultry meat and dairy products.
Ambassador Rimantas Sidlauskas, CEO of the Lithuanian Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Crafts noted that a memorandum of understanding between his Chamber and the Chinese International Economic Cooperation Association (CIECA) was inked in 2014, which has facilitated trade relations tremendously between Taiwan and Lithuania.
