Head of the Taipei Mission in the Republic of Latvia Mr. Rong-Chuan Wu visited the city of Jelgava, the 4th largest city of Latvia, on January 12, 2017. He visited the "NP Business Park" and Latvia University of Agriculture with the aim to explore more business opportunities as well as boost agricultural technology exchanges and cooperation between Jelgava and Taiwan.
Ms. Arta Nordmane, General Manager of the NP Business Park, highlighted in the briefing that the Park covers 23 hectares and is well equipped with all the infrastructure and facilities. More than 40 companies, half local and half foreign ones, have settled in the Park and the majority of which are manufacturers. Mr. Wu exchanged views with the management of the Park and pledged to introduce to potential Taiwan investors. During the site touring, Mr. Wu visited a wood processing plant "Cross Timber Systems", one of the renowned manufacturers in the Park, which processes timber into building material for export mainly to European countries. The company is highly interested to establish business relationship with Taiwanese entrepreneurs.
Latvia University of Agriculture has a century-old history, playing a key role in agricultural technology research and development in Latvia. During the meeting with Vice-rector Mr. Aigars Laizans, Mr. Wu introduced the latest development of agriculture in Taiwan and expressed his intention to bolster academic exchanges between Taiwan’s related universities and Latvia University of Agriculture. Mr. Laizans shared the same view with Mr. Wu, stressing that the doors of Latvia University of Agriculture are always open to students from Taiwan.
