Representative Wu of the Taipei Mission in the Republic of Latvia visited the city of Gulbene in Northeastern Latvia to attend its first business forum on January 20th. He delivered a speech titled “The Mutually Complimentary Trade Relationship between Taiwan and Latvia “ to an audience of more than 100 local governmental officials and business leaders.
In his speech, Representative Wu illustrated Taiwan’s economic development in the last few decades, stressing its role in the global supply chain of information industry. Then he mentioned about Taiwan's enormous outbound investment especially in China, Southeast Asian countries and the European Union. Taiwan's top export categories to Latvia are computer and peripheral devices, electronics, bicycles and auto parts and Taiwan's main imports from Latvia are timber and agriculture products, making the two countries mutually complimentary, he emphasized. As people in Taiwan are pursuing life of health and sustainability, LOHAS, Taipei Mission will push for introducing more organic dried fruit products to Taiwan market. Representative Wu also encouraged Latvian companies to participate in Food Fair Taiwan 2017.
Representative Wu also visited several cultural and economic establishments in the Gulbene Municipality and discussed matters of mutual concern.
