Representative Wu of the Taipei Mission in the Republic of Latvia participated in the “Taiwan Night” event organized by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Latvia (CanCham) at the Mercure Hotel in Riga on February 20th and delivered a presentation titled “Taiwan, Canada, and Latvia-Maximize Mutual Complementarities.”In the briefing to dozens of its members, CanCham chairman Ed Kalvins reviewed effects of projects conducted by the Chamber last year and stressed that Latvia is the first EU member state to ratify the Canada-EU Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement, the Chamber will push its limit to matchmake Canadian and Latvian business partners for further promoting trade relations. He also praised Representative Wu for his efforts in promoting trade and investment between Taiwan and Canada during his immediate-past tenure in Toronto and Ottawa and hoped to learn from his experience during the presentation.
In his presentation, Representative Wu analysed strength and weakness of industrial environment of Canada, Taiwan and Latvia and illustrated the mutually complimentary trilateral trade among them. He recapitulated how the diasporas connect their mother and hosting countries by pointing out the critical role Taiwanese Canadians have played in value-added agriculture of orchid, ginseng and mushroom in Canada. The Taipei Mission has spared no efforts in promoting mutually beneficial exchanges in the fields of science and technology, education and culture between Taiwan and Latvia. Representative Wu pledged and encouraged members of the CanCham to utilize the EU Horizon 2020 platform so as to engage in Taiwan counterparts in the industries of green energy and raw materials recycling, reusing and recovering.
Taipei Mission especially provided all the attendees with the well-known King Car Kavalan Whiskey from Taiwan which is available and popular in the Baltic States to enhance their knowledge about the island nation.
