Representative Wu Rong-Chuan of the Taipei Mission in the Republic of Latvia was invited to a live broadcast interview in the TV program “What Happens in Riga” of TV24 on March 2 to promote the “Taiwan Film Festival” jointly organized by the Mission and the Education, Culture and Sports Department of Riga City Council. Representative Wu cordially invites Latvian friends to the screening of 4 famous feature movies of Taiwan during March 4th and 5th at cinema "Splendid Palace": "Cape No.7", "Wheel of Life", "Life of Pi" and "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon"
Asked by program host Ms. Baiba Pole how the Mission came up with the idea to organize the festival, Representative Wu noted that the Mission represents the interests of the government of the Republic of China(Taiwan) in the Baltic states and one of its functions is to promote cultural exchanges among others. Latvia is a country of profound culture and Taiwan is a diverse society and is considered as one of the most free and democratic countries in Asia. Since movie is the common language among different peoples, we believe through Taiwanese movies, Latvian friends will be able to further understand Taiwan.
Representative Wu also expressed his thanks to the assistance of Latvian movie producers Mr. Igors Pronins and Ms. Yulia Zaytseva, who had just visited Taipei for the 2016 International Cultural and Creative Industry Expo, and also to the cooperation of the Education, Culture and Sports Department of Riga City Council to make Taiwan Film Festival in Riga happened.
With the question on what the Festival will surprise the audience, Representative Wu replied that Taiwan produces not only computer and ICT products but also a lot of international well-known artists. Blessed with political and historical elements, Taiwan is so diverse in terms of cultural development. The matured civil society is the driving force for cultural creation. We specially choose four movies to introduce to our Latvian friends. “Cape. No. 7” is about a love story of a Taiwanese and a Japanese. Taiwan was under the rule of Japan for 51 years, very similar to the situation of Latvia and former Soviet Union. “The Wheel of Life” is talking about reincarnation of triangle love stories in three different times with the same actors and actress. “Life of Pi” and “Crouching Tiger and hidden Dragon” are masterpieces from the most famous Taiwan-born movie director Ang Lee. Both movies won Oscar the best director awards.Representative Wu attends TV program “What Happens in Riga” of "TV24" to promote Taiwan Film FestivalRepresentative Wu attends TV program “What Happens in Riga” of "TV24" to promote Taiwan Film FestivalRepresentative Wu attends TV program “What Happens in Riga” of "TV24" to promote Taiwan Film Festival
