Representative Rong-chuan Wu of the Taipei Mission in the Republic of Latvia made a presentation titled “Global issues as they are seen in Taiwan’-Major Roles Taiwan Plays in the International Society " at the Tallinn University of Technology on September 27, 2017. Presided by Professor Holger Molder from the School of Business and Governance, Mr. Wu’s 90-minute lecture attracted more than 50 students and drew fervent discussion.
Professor Molder justified the invitation by mentioning Representative Wu’s position as the official representative of the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to the Baltic states as well as his vast experiences in the foreign service. He also indicated that Taiwan has always been a focus on international relations studies for its astounding economic achievement on the one hand and its unique international status on the other. Representative Wu elaborated Taiwan’s roles in the international society as a peacemaker for its position on the South China Sea issue; a provider of international humanitarian assistance for its NGOs' active contributions ; a creator of business opportunities for its indispensable role of world information industry supply chain; and a promoter of international cultural exchange for its vigorous international participation. He also introduced various scholarship programs provided by the Taiwan authorities and encouraged his audience to pursue their advanced studies in Taiwan.
As most present students are highly interested in Asian affairs, they responded fervently to Representative Wu's enlightening speech. Representative Wu entertained them with frank and blunt answers to various in-depth questions.
