The Head of Taipei Mission in the Republic of Latvia, Ambassador Gary Ko, and Madame Ko visited Saldus on 5th November. During their visit, they have a talk with Ms. Indra Rassa, the mayor of Saldus and Mr. Didzis Konusevskis, the deputy mayor of Saldus. Ms Rassa said that Saldus is famous for food, dairy, timber and cement business, she hope they could build some connections with the Taiwanese related business.
Ambassador Ko mentioned that the European Union provided the visa-free treatment to Taiwanese citizens, more and more Taiwanese people visited Latvia.
According to Latvian News Agency report, the turnover of “Olainfarm”pharmaceutical company in 2012, compared with last year, increases by 99% with the total amounts of $ 6.01 million Lats. Taiwan’s market definitely contributes to the sharp growth of Olainfarm’s profit, as the sale of the company in Taiwan’s market grows nine times in 2012. They also visited Saldus music & art school and Ms. Baiba Ritere’s workshop. Ms Ritere is the most famous Latvian textile artist. Her works earned a lot of awards and enjoyed good reputations around the world. When Latvia President Andris Berzins visited Washington D.C. and met with President Obama, he presented Mr. Obama one of Ms. Ritere’s works as a gift.
