WCIT 2017 In Taiwan: The Olympics of the ICT Industry

Taiwan hosted the 21st World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT 2017) from 10 to 13 September 2017. The WCIT is the globe’s most important information technology gathering, comparing the event to the Olympics of the technology world. More than 80 nations with over 2,500 business people, officials, academics, researchers and experts have taken part in WCIT 2017 to discuss the trend for digital development of next generation.
This Congress discussed potential solutions to critical global issues such as aging population, energy shortage, pollution, social security, and inadequate development between urban and rural areas. The application of ICT has been one of the methods to improve governance and to help address these challenges. Cyber security has been the long standing issue. The dilemma comes from enabling public participation while at the same time protecting personal privacy. The challenge remains and requires joint efforts from the governments around the world.
The WCIT 2017 also showcased the ways of smart living in every aspect of daily lives through demonstrating the state-of-art technologies in information communication. Through this event, Taiwan reflected its achievement as the hub of integrating software and hardware collaboration in the global ICT industry.
