2017 GTIFF FILM FESTIVAL PRESENTS AWARD WINNING DOCUMENTARIES
WITH PANEL TALK FROM THE DIRECTOR OF BREATHING UNDERWATER
GTIFF aims to celebrate and discuss multicultural identities while highlighting today's women's lives in a transnational setting. Whether it is by the seaside of Jeju (Breathing underwater), alongside the shed of Tan Shui River (Hebei Taipei), the sprawling wall in Palestine ( Ahmed Saleh’s animations) or the roadside cafe in Helsinki (Kamome Diner), the characters portrayed in the films strive to produce a meaningful life together, despite hardships.
Just like the films, the making of the festival itself has been a process of empowerment and building up a community. We would like to share our transnational experiences and create connection to audience in our day to day Swedish life. There will be Japanese paper theater KOM performing for children above three in Viktoriahuset above Hagabion. The Artists’ talk features Koh Hee-young, who will be sharing her unique making of the documentary about women divers in South Korea, “Breathing underwater”.
Globala Tanter is a Gothenburg based Art initiative, consisted of immigrated women who have studied Arts, Film and Design. Through numerous cups of tea, we exchange laughters and tears about settling down here while longing homeward. Our official collaborations are A-venue gallery, Factory Complex
film screening at Valand Academy and current event.
