On 11 April 2016, the Taichung City Government held a press conference entitled, “Seeing Taiwan Taichung in Singapore 2016” at Conrad Centennial Singapore to promote Taichung’s food and scenery.
In his address at the press conference, Representative Chang spoke about the close exchanges between the peoples of Taiwan and Singapore. In 2015, the number of Singapore visitors to Taiwan totaled 390,000 while the number of Taiwan visitors to Singapore was 320,000. As the preferred location of multinational companies seeking to locate their Asian headquarters, Singapore is the ideal launchpad for Taichung’s marketing campaign to promote its food and scenery. Representative Chang also shared his love for signature Taichung snacks like honey bean ice and walnut cakes, which he enjoys eating whenever he visits the city. He was most happy, therefore, to see Mr. Chia-Lung Lin, Mayor of Taichung City, bringing his much-loved Taichung food products to Singapore.
Led by Mayor Lin, a group of Taichung-based food companies participated in FHA2016, which was held at the Singapore Expo from 12 to 15 April. Taichung confectioneries and specialties such as Sun Cakes, Pineapple Cakes, Walnut Cakes, nougats and mini mooncakes were showcased at the international trade event targeting those in the food and hospitality industry.
Mayor Lin’s visit to Singapore received coverage by Lianhe Zaobao, Singapore's largest-circulating Chinese-language daily on 12 April 2016. Besides featuring Taichung City Government’s inaugural participation in FoodAsia2016, it also highlighted the use of Singapore as Taichung City Government’s first stop to reach out to markets in Singapore, ASEAN and beyond.
