On 10 June 2016, Representative and Mrs. Ta-Tung J. Chang attended the “Inspired Island II Literary Film Festival”, an event supported by Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture and co-organized by Singapore’s SIM University and Taiwan’s Fisfisa Media. Opened by Professor Eddie Kuo, SIM University’s Director of UniSIM Centre for Chinese Studies, the festival commenced with a dialogue between Professor Pai Hsien-Yung and Professor Wong Yoon Wah, Senior Vice President of the Southern University College, on the former’s life and work. This was followed by the Southeast Asian premiere screening of “Hsien-Yung Pai”, a literary documentary film based on Professor Pai’s life. The ensuing post-screening Question & Answer session with Professor Pai and Director Teng Yung-Shing saw lively exchanges between the two and the audience.
Over the festival weekend (11-12 June), all seven literary films from the Inspired Island II series featuring celebrated writers, including from Taiwan: Pai Hsien-Yung, Lin Wen-Yue, Ya Hsien, Lo Fu, and from Hong Kong Yi Chang Liu, Xi Xi, and Ye Si, were screened to full house audiences at The Arts House, Singapore. Directors Teng Yung-Shing from Taiwan and Ben Wong King Fai from Hong Kong also shared details of their filming experiences and expressed their admiration for the eminent writers’ excellent writing as well as their selfless mentoring of others.
