At the invitation of Mr. Cham Seng Yin, President of the United Chinese Library (UCL), Deputy Representative James C. L. Huang attended its 2016 Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations. Other invited guests included Mr. Heman Chen, Commissioner of the Overseas Community Affairs Council; Dr. Wong Wai Nam, Honorary President of the Alumni of Taiwan Universities & Colleges; and officials from the Taipei Representative Office in Singapore.
In his address, Deputy Representative Huang spoke of the historical significance of UCL, which is in its 106th year this year. Over the years, UCL has kept pace with changing times and regularly hosts cultural, educational and social events to deepen friendships and foster exchanges between Singapore and Taiwan. Deputy Representative Huang also spoke of the importance of the Mid-Autumn Festival to the Chinese people from all over the world, and cited Chuseok, a major festival celebrated with family members on Mid-Autumn Day in Korean culture, as an example. In his closing remarks, Deputy Representative Huang wished all guests and members of the United Chinese Library good health and happiness.
After a simple buffet meal, everyone had an enjoyable time solving lantern riddles and playing a game of Zhuang-Yuan-Bing (cake of top scholar).
