On 11 October 2016, Mr. Wu Ming Ming, President of the Agricultural Technology Research Institute (ATRI) and Mr. Chen Cheng-min, President of the Taipei Business Association in Singapore (TBAS) represented their respective organizations to sign a Memorandum of Understanding at the Taipei Representative Office in Singapore. Mr. Heman Chen, Commissioner of the Overseas Community Affairs Committee, presided over the MOU-signing which was graced by Mr. James C. L. Huang, Deputy Representative, Mr. Shih Chih Lung, Adviser to the Overseas Community Affairs Committee, and Mr. Chen Jia-dah, Secretary-General of the Asia Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce.
Mr. Wu Ming Ming shared that ATRI has been actively engaging the Taiwan business community through seminars and visits in countries including Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia and Australia. The MOU signed with TBAS will allow ATRI to gain a better understanding of the needs of the Taiwan business community in Singapore and for the latter to get to know what ATRI can offer in turn. ATRI can also leverage on Singapore as a connecting hub to South Asian countries such as India and Sri Lanka, and capitalize on Malaysia as a manufacturing base to advance its growth.
Besides signing the MOU, ATRI also visited Qian Hu Corporation and held discussions with the Youth Chapter of TBAS during their visit to Singapore this time.
Currently, ATRI has set up a dedicated service window and is conducting a needs analysis survey to identify both specific and feasible industries and appropriate operating models, and to evaluate the viability of an entrepreneurship counseling program targeting the youths in the agriculture and business sectors.
