On 12 November 2016, Deputy Representative James C. L. Huang led officials from the Taipei Representative Office in Singapore in commemorating the 151th birth anniversary of ROC Founding Father Dr. Sun Yat Sen at the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall. Over 30 persons, including the commissioners and advisers of the Overseas Compatriot Affairs Commission, as well as the office bearers and members of the United Chinese Library (UCL) and the Alumni of Taiwan Universities & Colleges (ATUC), were present. At the somber ceremony, Deputy Representative Huang offered flowers before the statue of Dr. Sun Yat Sen and led the attendees in taking three bows in front of Dr. Sun’s statue.
In his address, Deputy Representative Huang spoke of the Dr. Sun who, despite 10 failed uprisings, had persevered and succeeded in overthrowing the Qing dynasty to create Asia’s first Republic. He also elaborated on the historic connection between the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall and Dr. Sun’s revolution, and highlighted the contributions of the Singaporean Chinese community towards the revolutionary movement. Over the years, Dr. Sun’s San Min Doctrine and the Five-Power Constitution have taken root and sprouted in the Republic of China, making it a truly free, democratic, and law-abiding country. As a mark of our respect and heartfelt gratitude for our founding father, Dr. Sun Yat-sen, services are held regularly to commemorate him both on his birthday and on his death anniversary.
