At the invitation of Mr. Chen Cheng-min, President of the Taipei Business Association in Singapore, Representative Francis Kuo-Hsin Liang as well as Deputy Representative Steven Tai attended the association’s Chinese New Year celebration on 11 February 2017. About 150 persons, including the advisers and commissioners from the Overseas Community Affairs Council, members of the Taipei Business Association in Singapore, and other officials from the Taipei Representative Office in Singapore gathered at the celebration.
In his address, Representative Liang wished everyone present a Happy Chinese New Year and expressed his appreciation for the Taipei Business Association’s unstinting support for the Taipei Representative Office in Singapore and its tireless efforts in rolling out the initiatives of the Taiwanese government. Representative Liang also commended the association’s efforts in working with the Taipei Representative Office in Singapore to put together a series of events, including the Double Tenth Golf Tournament, Double Tenth Tennis Tournament, Double Tenth Woodball Championship, and the Double Tenth National Day Reception every year.
Additionally, Representative Liang spoke of the close partnership between Taiwan and Singapore in the areas of trade, tourism as well as cultural and educational exchanges. In 2016, Singapore was Taiwan’s sixth largest trading partner and tourist arrivals between the two countries exceeded 720,000. For 2017, the Hwa Kang Dance Troupe of the Chinese Culture University had once again been invited to perform at the Singapore’s River Hongbao Festival while the Cloud Gate 2 dance troupe and the Performance Workshop were also invited by Singapore to perform at its annual Huayi Festival.
