Representative Francis Kuo-Hsin Liang, accompanied by officials from the Taipei Representative Office in Singapore, attended the opening of the fifth edition of the Singapore Chinese Film Festival on 28 April 2017. The festival garnered much interest in Singapore, with over 250 persons attending the opening ceremony.
Co-organised by the Singapore Film Society and Centre for Chinese Studies, Singapore University of Social Sciences, the film festival showcased the eclectic and very best of Chinese Cinema. The Restored Classics segment, which is sponsored by the Taipei Representative Office in Singapore, features films painstakingly restored by Taiwan’s National Film Center. Films serve as revealing snapshots of a country’s composition and restoring classic films underscores Taiwan’s commitment to preserving and promoting Chinese cinematic heritage for new generations of film audiences. Over a period of ten days, the festival will be screening 45 titles, including Restored Classics from Taiwan such as “A Brighter Summer Day”, “Super Citizen Ko”, “Love in Chilly Spring” and “Love and Duty”. Tickets for “A Brighter Summer Day” sold out early at the festival.
Festival Co-director, Associate Professor Foo Tee Tuan, thanked Representative Liang for gracing the opening ceremony and expressed his appreciation for the Taipei Representative Office in Singapore’s continued support of the film festival over the years.
