On 23rd April 2017, a five-member delegation led by Dr. David Tawei Lee, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan), arrived in the Kingdom of Swaziland at the invitation of Swazi government. The purpose of this visit was to convey Taiwan’s first-ever female President Tsai Ing-wen’s congratulations on the 49th birthday of H.M. King Mswati Ⅲ. Meanwhile, Minister Lee, as a special envoy, extended felicitations on the 31st anniversary of His Majesty’s investiture as King of Swaziland. It is noteworthy that this special occasion coincided with the 49th anniversary of the diplomatic ties between the two countries since 1968, the very year when the kingdom regained its independence.
The delegation, in the company of Ambassador Thomas J.C. Chen and Mrs. Chen, was warmly received at a dinner hosted by Hon. Chief Mgwagwa Gamedze, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on the evening of their arrival. On 24th April, the delegation joined its Swazi brothers and sisters at Siteki Stadium in celebration of His Majesty’s birthday, and then attended the garden party hosted by His Majesty. Before the party, Minister Lee had an audience with His Majesty in which he reiterated ROC’s commitment to further deepening the strong bilateral ties and expressed appreciation for Swazi government’s staunch support for ROC in the international arena, including UN, WHA, UNFCCC, and ICAO.
