A Taiwanese business delegation has been received by the Indonesian President, Joko Widodo, with a view to strengthening investment ties between Taiwan and Indonesia.
The meeting marks the first time President Widodo has received a delegation of Taiwanese business representatives since he assumed office in October 2014. During the meeting on 30 November, the president expressed his gratitude for Taiwan’s continued investment in Indonesia, inviting more investment from Taiwan.
The delegation, which included Cathay Financial Holdings Chairman Tsai Hung-tu, Mitac-Synnex Group Chairman Matthew Miao, and Andrew Hsia of the Phu My Hung Development Corp, used the meeting to outline their future investment plans for Indonesia. Among the key topics discussed was the potential for investment in solar energy, which President Widodo stressed he was keen to encourage.
During the meeting, President Widodo praised Taiwan’s existing investment in the country for creating many jobs for Indonesian people, informing the delegates that ongoing economic reforms in the country would further improve the environment for Taiwanese investors.
The event is symbolic of the Taiwan’s aims to advance ties with ASEAN countries as part of the government’s ‘New Southbound Policy’.
