Performing from 21-23 November, Cloud Gate 2, the sister company of Taiwan’s internationally renowned Cloud Gate Dance Theatre, has concluded its performances at London’s Sadler’s Wells Theatre.
The troupe’s debut performance in London on 21 November was attended by over 1000 people, which included TRO Representative David Y.L. Lin, the Paraguayan Ambassador Miguel Angel Solano Lopez Casco, representatives from the British Council and members of parliament.
It featured a triple bill, which included ‘Wicked Fish’, which saw dancers mimic a shoal of fish, ‘The Wall, which examined ideas of protection and segregation, and ‘Beckoning’, a mysterious dance featuring zigzag body language inspired by Taiwan’s traditional rituals.
After the performance, the artistic director of Cloud Gate 2, Cheng Tsung-lung and Sadler's Wells Theatre Artistic Director Alistair Spalding CBE delivered a post-show talk. This was followed by a reception hosted by Representative Lin, who also gave a short speech at the reception to welcome the dance troupe.
The group was founded by Lin Hwai-min in 1999 and seeks to encourage and promote the work of young Taiwanese choreographers. The performance formed part of Sadler’s Well’s ‘Out of Asia 2’ dance line-up featuring many of the most talented artists from across Asia.
