ARCHBISHOP OF WESTMINSTER WELCOMES TAIWAN’S EFFORTS IN TACKLING CROSS-BORDER CRIME

On 2 February Representative Lin met with the Archbishop of Westminster, Cardinal Vincent Nichols, exchanging views on a range of challenging global issues, such as human trafficking and modern day slavery.
In the meeting at Archbishop’s House, the archbishop welcomed Taiwan’s participation in global anti-trafficking and slavery mechanisms. He also detailed the Holy See’s contribution to international anti-trafficking efforts through the Santa Marta Group, a catholic organisation that has brought bishops, police chiefs, and law enforcement agencies together to eliminate the practice.
Representative Lin said Taiwan’s is deeply committed to combatting such issues through participation in international efforts, citing its collaboration with the Holy See and the United States in providing humanitarian assistance worldwide. Representative Lin also highlighted Taiwan’s efforts in cooperating with neighbouring countries in the Asia-Pacific and praised the Archbishop’s achievements in helping to establish the Santa Marta Group.
The meeting preceded a reception held at Archbishop’s House on 6 February, where Representative Lin and the Archbishop of Westminster were both present at the farewell reception for Archbishop Antonio Mennini, the Holy See’s Apostolic Nuncio in Great Britain.
