A delegation from the Taiwanese political party, Green Party Taiwan, visited the UK from 27 March – 13 April, where they met with figures from across British politics and briefed them on Green politics in Taiwan.
Upon arriving in the UK, the delegation visited Liverpool to attend the Global Greens Congress 2017, a gathering for environmentalist parties from around the world. The Taiwanese politicians learnt about the latest developments in Green politics in Europe and met with Caroline Lucas, the leader of the Green Party of England and Wales.
On 28 March, the delegation was present in London, where they met with Adam Holloway, MP for Gravesham and a member of parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, and exchanged views on the development of the Green Party in Taiwan, Cross-strait relations, Taiwan identification, and the Scottish independence movement. The delegation was also given a tour of parliament by Wayne David MP for Caerphilly and the Shadow Defence Secretary before meeting with Scott Man, MP for North Cornwall, and a member of parliament’s environmental audit committee, for a discussion on the UK’s renewable energy policy.
During the visit, the delegation also met with Barry Gardiner, MP for Brent North, and Shadow Secretary of State for International Trade, where they exchanged views on the UK’s policy on climate change, environmental conservation and the development of offshore wind farms.
