On 5 April Representative Lin was interviewed on Monocle24, the radio station operated by the global affairs and lifestyle magazine, Monocle. As part of the station’s programme, The Briefing, the Representative spoke with host Steve Bloomfield on Cross-strait relations and current affairs.
On Cross-strait relations, Representative Lin said Taiwan wants to see a predictable consistent, and sustainable dialogue mechanism across the Taiwan Strait. He also stated that economic ties between mainland China and Taiwan have improved tremendously in recent decades, with nearly 100,000 Taiwanese companies across the mainland, 23 mutual agreements in action, and extensive cooperation in trade, tourism, and education.
Questioned on how Taiwan can maintain relations with mainland China, the Representative said Cross-strait relations must proceed on the basis of equality and parity. While Taiwan acknowledges the historical facts of the 1992 meeting and the outcomes of negotiations and interactions across the Strait over the past 20 years, Representative Lin said both sides must find a way of conducting more dialogue and developing a better partnership in terms of trade and investment.
