On 31 March Representative David Y.L. Lin led a TRO delegation to The Crystal, famed for being London’s most sustainable building. The visit came at the invitation of Mr Stephen Timms, MP for East Ham, and a member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Smart Cities.
Two executives from Siemens, the company operating The Crystal, provided the delegation with a tour of the building, including its exhibition on sustainable development. The executives, Mark Jenkinson, and Alexander Ebbinghaus explained the building’s sustainable technologies and briefed the delegation on the future challenges to sustainability, such as demographic shifts, urbanization, pollution, and extreme weather.
After the tour, the delegation was briefed on Siemens’ work in Taiwan, which included an assignment which transformed its tallest building, Taipei 101, into an internationally acclaimed ‘green’ building by achieving a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.
Representative Lin praised Siemens for its cutting-edge achievements and invited both executives to attend the World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) in Taipei this coming September.
