A three person delegation from Taiwan’s Central Electoral Commission (CEC) visited the UK from 5-9 June to learn more about the management of elections in the UK.
Led by CEC vice-chairman, Professor Chen Wen-sheng, the delegation visited the constituency of Ealing North to observe how incumbent Labour MP Stephen Pound conducted his campaign. This was followed by a meeting with staff from London Elects, the management team behind the Mayor of London and London Assembly elections, in which the delegation was briefed on how elections are conducted in the Greater London region.
Accompanied by Representative Lin, the delegation also attended a briefing for international observers of the 2017 general election held by the Electoral Commission, the independent regulator of UK elections and counterpart of the CEC. After the briefing which concerned the process and funding regulations behind the election, delegation members exchanged views with the chairman of the Electoral Commission, Sir John Holmes.
On polling day (8 June), the delegation visited three London-based polling stations before observing the vote counting process in the count centre for the Hammersmith & Fulham constituency.
